Cool

I'm new to this site...

I am heading down to Nags Head with the family during the first week of May. I plan on surf-fishing everyday! What type of action can I expect?

We stayed down there last year (end of March) and all I was able to catch was an old fishing reel, and a piece of driftwood....(both of which I kept) I actually mounted the reel on the driftwood. (had to mount something

Welcome to the boad YellowJacket, I'm fairly new myself. May is a good time of year to fish the OBX and the weather is great not to hot or cold. Both spec and gray trout, flounder, blues always blues, croaker, black drum, end of the red drum season and beginning of cobia season. Hope you land another trophy.

thanks Steve. Do you recommend waders? or just fishing from dry beach?

just looking to get more information before we go down. I think last years problem was due to poor weather and i'm not sure if things had settled from the previous season's huarracane.

Cool

I fish the jetty on south side oregon inlet, have caught nice size reds, blues& trout there.
My favorite lure is a chrome crocadile or little cleo 1 1/2-3" long.
In spring & summer the fish seem to go after the crabs?
Early morning on evening best time.

Time is almost upon us. Which is the best tackle shop to go to? Is anything biting from the surf yet? I keep checking weather.com to see the weather down there, kinda chilly huh.

Yellow Jacket,
The weather has everything a bit behind schedule here in Nags Head. The piers are just beginning to heat up and the surf shouldn't be too far behind.

Try TW's here in Nags Head for your tackle needs. It's at MP 10 1/2 (approximately). They'll be able to fill all your tackle and bait needs while here. They also will have up to date catch reports.

(sorry , no comercial links ........ thanks derf )

Enjoy your stay here. Good luck!
