I normally follow NJ TP. to 13 to 17 to rt70 into Alantic Beach.
Friends have advised to use 95 to rt 70 ( more miles but faster.

Any opinions on best route south? I plan on making the trip towards end of Feb. Any hope for fish?

Getting stuck on 95 in traffic can add a lot of time to the trip. There is no escaping the jam once your in it and the drivers on 95 DC and VA are worse than the ones in RI. And I feel a little safer on the secondary hgw. The improvements in Va and NC on 17 take some of the slowness out.

Depends what time you plan on travelling. We pull a boat down to Beaufort every fall from Philly and have driven both the 13 and 95 routes. I think depending on when you leave, taking I95 can be a lot faster. We usually travel on the weekends and it the middle of the night so I95 isn't too bad. I wouldn't go near I95 if I was passing through DC anytime near rush hour. If you take I95, I think it is faster to get on to 64 east at Rock Mount, NC, then hop on 17 south, and then get onto 70 at New Bern.

Route 13 through Delmarva is a lot of lights and speed traps.

Anyway you do it, it is a tough drive but the fishing at the other end can be great.

If you are taking the Delmarva Route I'd take I-95 to 1, 1 to 113, 113 to 13

or 1 to Rte. 10 at Dover and 10 over to 13.

After crossing into DE definitely stay on 95 until it hits 1, ignore the signs that would direct you onto 13. And definitely stay on 1 south past Dover.

After Dover the 113 way is 2 miles further but less traffic lights and a prettier ride. There's a 15 mi. stretch of single lane between Berlin and Snow Hill, MD but it's wide open country and the traffic rolls right along.
