As a college grad gift I am getting a trip to somewhere between Kill Devil Hills and South Nags Head. Time would be mid to late May just before Memorial Day.
I am just curious if anyone has any input on the Nags Head Pier or the Outer Banks Pier. There is also a chance that I would have beach front access from the rental house/condo but be about two miles from either pier. Which would be the better option? I am not going for any particular fish, just to have fun. Tackle suggestions are welcome as well. Thanks.

Stripers should be around. There may be some Red Drum in the area, too. Bluefish for sure.
You can catch fish from both the sand and the planks in Nags Head. Whatever you prefer. IMHO, you will have better luck fishing south of Nags Head. Anywere from the Oregon Inlet to Ocracoke. Good luck and have fun.

I'm not a pier fishermen but if you have a car you do any kind of fishing you please. Take along a light tackle out fit for speckled trout and flounder, blues are always around. There are still a few stripers and drum around so take along a heavier out fit as well. You defiantly are going to have better fishing south of Nags Head. The local tackle shops will know what is biting and where. Good luck.
