Emerald Isle is quite a bit (apro 100 mi) south of Cape Hatteras and the water is much warmer and there are fewer "big" fish in the surf. In May at Emerald Isle you should be able to catch 1-3 lb blues, flounder, sea mullet, maybe a few specs, croakers, spot, possibly pompano, etc. All of your typical warm water inshore fish. May in Emerald Isle is also COBIA time, but most of the cobia in that area are boat-caught fish.
