Fished the OBX last week from Wednesday ‘til this morning...looking for Stripers... Found them, along w/ some Puppy Drum, Spec's and Blue Fish...

Tried from Corrolla down to Hatteras Inlet...

Winds, nasty weather and dirty and/or seaweed filled water did not help things...

Fresh bait iffy...water temps mostly around 54/55 degrees...

Stripers – 17 total to 42"(none under 34")...most on the north beaches (ramp 34 and north) on bunker...however, picked up a few throwing lures at night at the north end of Pea Island and at Corrolla and Coquina beaches during the day...

Spec's – handful behind the hotels in Buxton...small jigs...nothing large.

Blue Fish – a couple at Cape Point, 7# - 9#...

Puppy Drum – a couple at Ramp 55...

Small Sharks and Skates - I cannot count that high!

Of course I missed the epic Striper bite at HI Saturday night...first hand reports were that some 150+ fish landed w/ some to 46"...

Same story as last year—the OBX is huge, just too much beach to cover...spent (wasted) a lot of time driving from the northern OBX beaches down to HI... Stripers could be anywhere!!!

poppy,

good to hear form you, and glad that you caught some fish. what you said is both the benefit and bane of fishing the OBX, with a lot of beach to cover, but it also is great that you are not forced to fishing elbow to elbow all of the time.
took my step-son fishing for his first real surf adventure and he caught a 41" up at the south beach at OI. will be headed to HI to throw some metal at them during the holidays with the other 2 step-sons who now want to get in on the action.
hope you have a terrific holiday season, and sorry that i missed you on your trip down.
