Do a search for oregon inlet fishing center. If you are looking for a 1-3 person charter I highly recommend Capt. Aaron Kelly on the Rock Solid. He is not afraid to run many miles looking for the fish and many times will stay late if the bite is hot. The poacher and free agent are 6 pack charter boats that also fish striped bass full time in the winter. Talk with the captains first and state what you want (jigging vs trolling, keeping or catchnrelease etc) from the trip. Try to book ahead as many of the fulltime boats are probably already booked, especially if it is a weekend. Good time to be here and on a boat as long as the weather cooperates. Your best bet would be to stay in nags head - rooms should be cheap, fast food and 7-11 nearby. About 15 minutes to oregon inlet.

Call Caine Livesay on the Fine Line. He docks at Broad Creek Marina in Wanchese.

He's a younger guy just starting out, but he's got one of the cooler boats on the water- a '66 Harkers Island. It's got what John Wayne would call GRIT, and he catches fish. Caine's a nice guy, and great with kids. He's become our go-to guy for boat rides, and we couldn't be happier. Here's what we did 2 weeks ago:

I fished on the Rock Solid on 12/21. We had to heat the waterpump and break ice just to leave the marina. We caught better than a limit on a shortened half day trip. Captain Kelly knows how to fish and is a stand-up guy. He gave us a price break because we had to waste fishing time dealing with the freezing weather. Another thing to consider is the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center is the closest run to the inlet and ocean. Best Western has nice suites for about $75 a night. Avoid Conner Realty, it's a long story about frozen pipes and rodents. They eventually made good but jeeze this was vacation.
