Just spent the last eight days on the Island and only managed to score some fresh bunker once. Mullet and some frozen stuff could be had on occasion, but I'm not big on mullet for stripers. Striper fishing was scattered and sporatic to say the least. Spiney dogs were everywhere and didn't care what was on the end of your line. Some sea mullet and black drum were available on small bait. Not the worst trip, but the lack of fresh menhaden sure lowered the confidence level. Oh, I also managed a new personal record for one whole mullet bait.... $1.99/lb X 8.1lb = $16.12!

Nice fish!!! I'm heading to Hatteras Monday morning. I hope I can get some fresh bunker down there. There is NONE in Virginia Beach. I've been fishing with salted/frozen for the last two weeks. And now I'm out.
I heard TW and Frank and Fran's both had some fresh menhaden. I sure hope so. I also heard TW was selling it at $2.50 a pound. Ouch.
Again, nice fish!!!

Was down all weekend. The fish were scattered but we made out ok.....

Frank had fresh friday night I got 30# of that. He charged .99 a pound as usual. Hatteras Jacks had it for 2.50$.....can you say robbing people?

I looked for fresh all day friday on the eastern shore, no joy.

Usually bait is cost plus. Maybe the wholesale price is higher "up north".
