Thumbs up

Staying in Hatteras Village as usual with the wife and kids. Made the trip 7 times previously and usually hit the Hatteras Inlet for blues and spanish on stingsilvers. Also get them off the beach in front of the house we rent.

I would appreciate any advice on catching something bigger than 14"/15" which is about as big as the spanish and blues get for us in August.

Where can I catch puppy drum or redfish? Have a kayak rigged for fishing that I'll put in the sound. Would be cool if anyone wants to hook up for some kayak fishing as well. Let me know.

Thanks in advance.

I have to agree with John this is usually a slow time of year for the big stuff. Good news is, while down at Hatteras the moon phase is turning full, that always hepls. There have been some puppy and black drum caught at Hatteras inlet on bait, you may also want to check out the jetties at the old location of the lighthouse. You can also catch the ferry over to Ocracoke for a day and talk to Bob and Nancy at Tradewinds Tackle, they can usually put you on fish.

I've been going down to the Outer Banks for 35 years. Our family always stays in Avon and I'll be down there Sept 4th -11th. I have a brand new Tarpon 140 Angler that will be going down this year. I'd love to hear how your week goes especially with the Kayak fishing. Last year, during the same week I caught my first Puppy Drum at the Point on shrimp. Didn't have much other luck besides that. I did take the half day inshore bottom fishing trip on the Miss Hatteras out of Oden's dock, lots of fun. We caught trigger fish and one vermillion snapper. Others caught flounder and a shark I think. It was very reasonable and I'll be going out again this year. Good luck and keep us posted on your luck. Any advice and or stories would be apprciated.

Go out to the False Point area after dark and sling something big and nasty about 60-75yds out. Hang on. Guaranteed to be greater than 15".

Last week some guy scored a box full of blowtoads somewhere around 55. Not sure why they are around right now, but some folks are happy to see them.
