Question

I'm heading down for a vaca July 4th week. I've been coming down on and off for the past 20 years and I know it's a fairly slow time fishing wise.

I usually head over to Oregon Inlet and behind the Lighthouse and fish the backwaters for SeaTrout and do some pier fishing for Macks.

Any other thoughts on what's running now?

Thanks in advance.

The Spanish and Blues are running strong including some of the big Blues in the 15# range. Still some Puppy and Black Drum being caught.

On June 14th, I released well over 100 specs from a certain spot south of Avon in the sound....left them biting.....could have released 200-300 if I had stayed longer that day....... .....all 11-15"

Over the next week and a half after that, they were on and off, got anywhere from zero to 8 a day.....nothing like that Monday, though.......

The surf fishing was terrible, but the wind conditions during the two weeks I was down was the cause.....only 1 or 2 days of clean water....

Had two sand sharks and a ribbonfish from the surf......that was it for the two weeks, if you don't count (and I don't) the endless croakers.......one morning the blues were there, but wouldn't hit anything.

Last Friday the Spanish were jumping in the crystals clear water, but stayed about 4 cast lengths out.......

I fished a few days last week at OI. We wet waded and caught some nice fat flounder between 16-18in.All caught on minnows. Threw back anything smaller Also caught some specs on minnows but really didn't fish for them. The snapper blues would show on top about a hour or so after the tide change. If you need minnows The Fishin Hole in Salvo sells them. And if wet wading the jellyfish are everywhere so wading pants or waders are a must.It is summer fishing but better than work.We also found lots of small crokers on Salvo beaches just in case you have a youngster that likes to fish the surf.
