Who'd be up for a trip to Montauk next fall? I've always wanted to fish the place. I could give up a long weekend of drum fishing in late september/early october no problem. Meat? Wormy? I'm not even gonna ask Kenny, he'll be glued to the planks I'm sure.

Clyde,
We talk about it every year. We went to Block Is year before last and we wanted to attempt a group trip every year to some different hotspot. This year was a bust with the bad economy and some folks were without jobs. Since you are getting a new Burb, I will ride with you and we can split gas and accomidations ![]() Since we see so many yankees comin down here to fish in the fall and winter, I dont see why we cant invade their turf for a little fishin Wormy |

Fellows,
Now your talkin'. This Yankee would be more than happy to meet up with you. Just a word of advice: Pencil poppers and bucktails (1 oz) are the daytime lures, and Darters and Needles are the night time lures. You don't need the heavers up here, 10'or 11' spinning rods are the most popular. Jack Yee ("Mayor of MontauK") is one of the few fellows who uses a conventional (Abu 7000c3 Big Game). On second thought you may be able to hit Block Island with a Heaver and a stingsilver. Looking forward to it! Steve MSA#9999 |

Now that we actually seem to have a little interest, what are the most consistant time frames that we are looking at? Sept would fit right into our season...
Trust me, I would be the first to put aside the heaver for some bass! Thanks for the offer guys and dont be surprised if you hear from some of us. Wormy |

when would be the optimal time to go? i'd even be interested in a summer trip to escape the heat and typically small fish at that time (cobia excepted). perhaps we could do a "cultural" exchange and invite our host(s) to a real treat down here dor some "southern hospitality". i took a 1265 and 6500 mag elite up to nantucket several summers ago and had a ball with 5 to 8 lb bluefish. made the mistake of trying to wade in shorts up in maine during the 4th of july week where i discovered the water temp was 51 degrees, but that wasn't really a fishing trip per design.
got an 11'9" and a new 1477 "special" that have bass written all over them. get out the calendars and lets start penciling in some dates. happy holidays! kip

You let us up here know when you want to come and I'm sure we can get people from whatever area you want to fish to show you the way. And I like the idea of a southern get together...Happy Holidays to you all.

The first week or two in October was the best blitz fishing in Montauk this past fall. Had many keeper size Bass the first three days of October. Two out of three days saw massive blitz action. The fish all seemed to be in the twenty pound class, and rolled in the size of a football field with three inches of space between them. It was a site to behold! I kid you not! Most of the action was afternoon to dusk. Don't want to use anything with a treble or it will slow you down.
Be advised that this time of the year Montauk gets crowded, so finding a secluded spot is not easy unless your "bat" fishing or walking some rock strewn distances. The great fishing outweighs the work and minor inconveiniences. |

I think the most of us are used to fishing crowds, i.e., the "Point" at hatteras. Late September/early October sounds good to me. I do have to go ahead and say this though. If there happens to be a hurricane approaching the southeast coast around the time we schedule, I will have to back out because of work. That's my only fear, it's happened to me before on planned trips.
Would love for this to work out. The last weekend in September or the first weekend of October will work for me with my work schedule as it is now. Merry Christmas everybody! |

Mid to late Sept would work for me. Once you start getting towards mid Oct then you have conflicts with those fishing the Drum Tourney and getting lots of time off.

NCsurffisher,
The weekends are "NUTS" in Montauk during that time period. Try if you can to schedule it mid-week, if posssible. If that is possible also consider traveling through NYC after dinner to avoid the rush hour exiting the city. I usually pullup in Pennsylvania for Dinner. Any info you need please feel free to ask.
