Just spent nine days on the Island and didn't see much bird activity anywhere. Is this because the fish aren't there in sufficient numbers to push the bait? Are the bunker schools offshore? Still too early?

I was there 3 weeks in Oct. You could throw bait out on the beach and the gulls could care less, Very odd. From bait fish on up the fishing was poor, to say the least..
Strange year indeed!

Definitely not too early. The fish seemed to show almost 3 weeks late this year. There haven't been any true sustained lure chucking blitzes that I know of and that is very strange for this time of year. Some fish are here but it has mainly been a bait game from the beach. There was lots of bait in the form of menhaden and grey trout off the beaches around mid november but not many fish on them. It has been a weird year dating back to the spring.
