Question

Figure as soon as I finish the final exams of my first semester at college, I deserve a little reward, so I was planning on heading down to the OBX on 12/18 in pursuit of the striped bass that frequently neglect the South Jersey waters I normally fish .

I was planning on spending my time surfcasting from OI to Hatteras depending on the fishing (Is this a good choice?). Any advice would be greatly appreciated on what to expect fishing-wise, and what general methods produce.

I'm pretty much equipped to do any kind of fishing necessary (I also pan on bringing my wetsuit and flippers if the bass stay out of reach )

Thank you for any and all replies,

Jim

be prepared for anything weather wise as it can be 20 to 70+ degrees, slick calm to raging seas. the wetsuit and flippers may not be a good idea as no one down this way does that kind of fishing. if the fish are outside of casting range, many launch small boats off the beach. there are several good tackle shops in the nags head area before you get to OI, and then again in avon and buxton (cape point). good luck with your finals and fishing along the OBX.

The fish could be spread from carova to buxton at that time. They really just started to show around thanksgiving. You can chase birds or fish 8nbait. There are no rocks to swim to but the wetsuit will help in wading through a deep slough to reach an outer bar. As of right now I would fish from oi north. Post again right before your trip to see if the fish have spread south much.
