Question

Heading to Duck for thanksgiving week. I sure would appreciate a little info as to B&T shops in the area and what is the bait du jour. I heard Bunka is the bait of choice; we are comming well prepared we think. Do most of my fishing in the SFZ of nj; what kind of set ups do people use? I have a bait set up just need to customize it for the trip. Any and all advice would be welcome.

Best bet to find bait will be at TW's in Kitty Hawk. Bunker will be nearly impossible to find that far north on the island. You may get lucky but very doubtful. To get bunker you would need to drive south towards Rodanthe, Avon and Buxton.

Dont rule out eels. I know it is a cardinal sin for Northerners to deadstick an eel but often when you need to cast 75+ yds to hit striper water it will pay off. Desperate times call for desperate measures and I have seen MANY nice bass taken this way as well as I have caught them this way. TW's will have eels as well as most of the shops up that way.

For bait fishing the standard fishfinder rig cant be beat.

Keep some sort of tin rigged up to cast at breaking fish and birds.

There is one shop in the duck area - Bob's B+T. Don't even bother going in. There is tw's in kitty hawk and nags head. They will have eels, mullet and possibly menhaden. That is an excellent time to drive the beaches from duck north to carova (almost the va line) and look for birds/fish. Good luck.

I buy my bait at TW's in Nags Head, seems to be best for fresh bait.Fished up in Duck,SS,Corolla, never had much luck.Better fishing from Kittyhawk south.Going down in dec 6 to S. Nags Head for a week for stripers.
Also beer is cheaper in Food Lion next to TW's

Thanks for all the advice; sorry not to post but it was less than a spectacular outing....but not from lack of trying. Lets say we did alot of practicing and not much catching but it was still ablast.
