Chuck, Never been to Portsmouth Island. What's it like and how do you get there?

Jack its northeast of Morehead city NC.You get a ferry out of Atlantic NC. Morris Marina opperates it. There are cabins on the island owned by the National Park Service. The cabins are closed due to the lack of septic systems at this time, besides other problems. It is open for camping. We have been making the trip (6 high school friends since the mid 70's) 2 a year most years. 3o inch blues in the spring,Drum in the fall along with Kings or weakes trout, sea bass, black drum.
We are going out on 11/7 to the 13.
There are no private dwellings just the cabins and Portsmith Village. 22 mile + or - of unspolied beach not much presure on week days depending on whats running.

If you want more info call 252-225-4267. Need more info you can E mail me or PM .

Chuck - Shhhhhhhhh!

Tell 'em about the hummingbird-sized 'squitos and black flys, having to pack all your ice and all supplies in and the easy of getting stranded on the island on the SW blows in the spring. (4 times for me)

But DO NOT tell anyone about the 20 miles of unspoiled beach, isolation, great shell picking, nice folks and great fishing.

It's a all a lie!!!

You mean the NC air National Gaurd and the sound being empty of water as the ferry bounces over the bars.
God its what surf fishing was when I was a wee kid.
