I am going down that week, also staying in rodanthe, (Tan blazer)fish down the end of salvo.
We go down GSP catch ferry & out to 113 down to pocomke city where it merges with 13.take to virgina beach & get on freeway to exit for 64 outers banks(exit past battlefeild blvd)think it is #137 soon as you get on, get over into left lane as that is the road (168&158) to OB
It is toll road in part of Vir.(168/64) the trip takes about 8 hrs + -

Piney pretty much got it right. The other option if you wanna skip the ferry is take the NJ tunrpike to the deleware memorial bridge, once over follow signs for rt13 south. After a couple miles on 13 you will see signs for rt 1 south. Take rt 1 south to exit 97 then get back on rt and follow the direction piney gave you. Rt 1 parrells rt13 but has no lights and a 65 mph speed limit the 2 tolls are worth saving the 30 or minutes.

I wont be down then good luck

Here we go another Typo-Pluggo directions debate.

Most of the time you're better off staying on I-95 until the Rte 1 intersection rather than getting off on 13 after crossing the Del. Mem. Bridge. It's a few miles further but cuts out several traffic lights and a good bit of potential congestion.

Be aware that Rte. 1 does not intersect Rte 13. On the south side of Dover, DE you will exit Rte 1 onto Rte 10 and take it west for about 3 miles to intersect with 13.

Definitely avoid the ferry unless you want the 2 hour boat ride.

Mike, if the timing is right, not traveling with fam. etc. and you want to plug some bass IRI is not too much out of the way. Possibility we could hook up.

Don"t forget to stop at hatteras jacks for bait & info.I found this to be good place for bait.
Shrimp, Mullet & bloodworms (I have been taking worms & clams down from jersey as they are alot bigger)

I am taking my 14 carolina skiff to try some sound fishing around the lagons, last time caught more fish in sound than surf.

I make 1 day trip on the miss hatteras for offshore fishing, $80+tip,worth time &$$,good boat & mate.

Check out Outer Banks Fishing.Com has alot of Info

Email me @ pineyjd@yahoo.com if you want more info

Mike...I did this trip w/ my family in June, although we only went as far as Nags Head. We did the ferry, and the 13/CBBT route, and it was great. The ferry was a nice early AM break to let my daughter run around and stretch the legs, although it only comes 90 min into the overall trip. Nevetheless, we enjoy the drive down 13...avoiding the craziness of 95. And there are fast food places and such every so often, leaving opportunity for add'l breaks if needed.

I actually had my wife record a few milestones and elapsed times, for future reference. As I remember, about 6+ hours to the CBBT, via ferry, from Howell NJ.

Have a great time!
