I'm heading from CT down to Kill Devil Hills for about a week at the end of August. Will probably be fishing from beaches, though may convince wife to let me bring the yak. Any word on where I might get into some fish and what I might find? Thanks. This board is awfully quiet....Has the fishing been that bad?

Fishing has been sporadic this summer. I was down this past weekend and water temps were mid to high 60's.

Earlier in the week Kitty Hawk Pier recorded 58 degrees one morning.

If you don't mind hunting for fish you can still find them.

This is, almost typical, lack of fish, summer fishin at its finest right now.

It is usually slow this time of year unless you are lookin for the panfish sized fish. Even the Spanish have been fairly scarce this year.

With the strange water temps we have been getting it hard to say what will show up early or late this year.

You will always have a shot at some croaker, small blues, spanish, spot, flounder, and a puppy or two. Not to mention a car hood size ray or an unstopable of some sort to add the the excitement.

I would say the Yak would be a plus. Late summer through Sept, I have more luck in the sound than the ocean, but you should also have some good mornings on the oceanside for taking advantage of the Yak.

asabatelli,Wizardude is right sound is your best bet, this yr.. The ocean is going thru what is called "upwelling",caused by steady sw winds, therefore, water temps lower than normal in ocean. In my close to 30yr of fishing down here, never seen it to this degree, nor seen this much sw wind back to back..
You may catch spainish or bluefish in the ocean, but as Wizardude said, take that yak in the sound.. I'd say, judging from where you are located,Bodie Island Light,Manns Harbor(if calm enough),or New Inlet would be good spots to try for specks, pups, bluefish and even stripers in the sound.. Also,it has been suggested to me by some folks a live pinfish at night on one of the piers down there, may produce a striper..That's as "specific" as I can get without bein there withya,I got ta work damit...
