Buxton/Avon 6/25 to 6/29. No Cobia but the prize for me was a 46 in Red at day break Friday morning on south beach. Hate when big drum eat my Cobia baits. Couple nights of decent spanish and some pretty good sized. Gold stingsilver seemed to be hot. Just watch and see what Ben Doer is throwing and do the same but you got to keep an eye on him cause he'll sneak a different color on you. Blues of snapper to taylor all day most days. Frickin huge butterfly rays on bluefish heads. I had to stop fishin bait cause the bottom was stacked with these critters.Think I landed 5 easily 100+ lbs. and lost 3 more. Fished Avon off and on as it had the cleanest water but couldn't lose a bait there. Snaggged a bantum ray in the wing with a stingsilver which gave me struggle but ended up breaking off close to the lure. Had a beautiful remora on one wing and a stingsilver on the other-seemed no worse for the wear. Only Cobia I saw was the 38 incher on the stingsilver next to me last night. Guess I should of hit the Inlet for the Cobias.
New camper was sweet but really bogs down in the sand. Found out the camper is not skeeter proof. I think they are coming thru the screens??? Of course I hit R38 the first time on the beach and it has the worst sand anywhere so was a good test. Ended up with 20 lbs front and 25 back. I did not like the looks of the back tires driving on hard road back and forth from Avon to the point. Think I would have had to air up to hit the inlet.
Never fished into the night-camper just too inviting.

FISH ON!

Starcraft Tourstar S pop-up. Weighs about 1900 lbs loaded. The sand was so bad Hummers, Jeeps and mighty Ford 3/4 tons were gettin stuck. Summer chewed up sand at R38 is as bad or worse than the narrows used to be (haven't been there of late) and the point had real soft spots on the south beach. Most were the inexperienced tourist crowd with too much air and/or they would try to run straight up a soft hillside and just kept digging till they buried their frames. Guess I been spoiled traveling light-no more speeding down the beach to catch first light.

Take my word for it,the narrows, haven't changed much.. Still got that soft "sugar sand" that loves to sink ya..
PS One good thing, the park service opened a new ramp, really an old one it kinda cuts out the "narrows" part..
