Post

Hi all
I am coming from New York to Nags Head for the week coming up and just curious of any surf action? I do have a 4 wheel drive and will go out to the beaches. So can anyone give any advice on what tackle to bring and what I can expect to find?? Any help will be great. Thank you all
David

Go south to ramp 4 (Oregon Inlet) if you want to drive on the beach. They were catching Grey Trout off the Jettys this past weekend.

Cool

For Pampano Be sure to use gold hooks. Seems sand fleas are the bait of choice for them. you can find fleas at the edge of the surf.

For spanish you need stingsilvers 2and 3oz check with a local tackle shop when ya get down there as to what colors are produceing.

You'll need to be able to toss these 50 to 100 yds. toss'em then reel as fast as you can. If your catchin blues and the guy beside ya is catchin spanish you're not reeling fast enough.

12lb test is plenty. tie on about 4' of 20lbs floracarbon leader ( no swivels) and ya should catch a bunch if they're there.

Gotchas also work for spanish. last week the buzz was the gold bodied ones with the chartruese head.

Highlander---
Best times are the first hour after sunup and the last hour before dark. Sometimes they come through in the middle of the day, but the other 2 times are more reliable.

After dark is a waste of time for macks. Put out a big bait and catch one o' them smiley fish.
