I have seen some from 70-90# landed from the surf and you hear of the ones that got away or seen that were/are as big as that monster in the photo.

Aint no two ways around it. That 113#'er is one heck of a Cobia. I would like to here the story behind the fight and landing of that Moose!
I wonder what the girth is on that big girl!

I could not imagine fighting one from the surf like that. I have 2 in the 70# class and that was a handful.

Sounds like "Meat&Brina"got some making up to do.....
Brian,I've done several this way INSTEAD of using a gaff: If you know you are going to keep the fish to eat anyway, wear the fish down well,I'm sure you have to do that to get the fish to the surf anyway.. Then have the other man reach under the gillplate and grab a handfull of gill.. I know it sounds crazy, but you would not believe how much easier it is to handle a cobe that way than to hit him with a gaff, and have the fish go apesh@t.. Have done this to several, especially when I am alone in the tube, cause the fish doesn't beat the boat up half as bad.. Done this to up to 80lbers...

Hey DD, I noticed you said, have the "other guy" grab'im ....... good advise!

Actually, the best way from the beach is to just slip the gaff in the Cobia's lip and then simply drag'er up on the beach and then to wherever you need to take'er.

With the gaff hooked in the lip it not only makes for a successful release but the fish can do all the flopping and twisting it wants to without hurting you, the fish or the gaff.

Wraslin a 70lber in 2-3' of surf while simultaneously trying to grab a handful O gills and avoid that barb, ain't my idea of fun.....it is rather humorous watching "someone else" do it tho

As for the tube (at least in mine), that's what they makes them metal baseball bats fer

John M, Cobe gaffer extraordinaire in action!

He may not be pretty but he gets'em on the beach!
