I just got back was down for a week. Strange season. Water is still very cold. I hope the forecast for the week changes. Was gonna be down for 2 weeks, but the wind swung north on thursday afternoon and will north for almost a week . If its right I will be there, but I wont decide until later this week.

BTW be careful on the point, it was washing over and its almost gone......it will be a very crowded place once the drum show up.

Exclamation

Careful everywhere!

The South End of Ocracoke was a complete washover Saturday night. The access road in front of Howards was closed on Sunday. The only way to the beach was the airport ramp which is 3.5 miles from the South end. In many areas you could see where the Sat Night high tide had washed all the way up to the dunes.

Yep. My next trip will be Memorial Day weekend. Target species will be late Drum and early Cobia. As cold as it is now, its looking more and more like Drum.

South beach is currently closed due to flood and repair. Cape point is shrinking fast and crowded on a weekday, without even any drum being caught. The closing may last for a few days.

Was at Ocracoke inlet yesterday. Ramp 72 was closed but airport ramp was open and had no problem reaching the south point at high tide. Again, lots of people on a weekday. Many drum fishmen congregated near the point but no drum reported being caught. only seen scattered kings and blues and HUGE sting rays (don't ask how I found out about it)

Hatteras inlet (false point) is open although access road is flooded pretty bad at several places. water looked great with nice structures everywhere but only saw scattered catch of blues and kings. Again, pretty crowded for weekday.

To reach the shipwreck on South Beach, hmmmm....

First, you cannot reach it from the Point. The Bird area/beach washout makes driving south (west) from the Point an impossibility.

Second, you cannot reach it from the Airport Ramp (49?) in Frisco. The Ramp Road was closed due to high water. If it doesn't rain much in the next few days...maybe it will be open when you go. You just have to ask around.

South Beach is reachable from ramp 44, the main Point ramp. Just go over ramp 44, take your first right on the back road, then take your first left toward the beach. This brings you out right beside the shipwreck. The problem with this approach is sometimes these roads are in very bad shape and have very deep puddles you must drive through. The other problem is, with just a little more rain, Ramp 44 can be closed because of the road flooding with every rainstorm these days.

As for Hatteras Inlet...well.....

At Ramp 55 the beach was completely washed out. there was maybe only a 100 yd stretch of beach right in front of the ramp at high tide. At low tide, you could drive all the way to the inlet from 55 on Saturday.

The back road to the inlet/false point was OK until near the end. There were 2 or 3 deep puddles you must drive through to get to the end. Once again, it just depends on the recent rain.
