When do the beach netters start to ruin the surf fishing for stripers? If I recall correctly is it around Dec. 1st.? Is Pea Island off limits to the beach netters?

I dont think they ruin it...they can only net on certian days I beleive and its a pretty short season really. I have never found the netters really interfered with my fishing.

I agree that the beach seining spooks the fish.
I find about 3 days after they stop the stripers start "chewing the sand off the point" (to borrow the phrase). Hopefully they'll net their million or so pounds the first two weeks and be done with it. I agree with John here, they don't really do that much damage the way ncdmf&dmf has regulated it.. They take what is allowed, can only do it on certian dates, and it usually doesn't take very long either.. BUT,the thing that chaps my behind is when I'm speck fishn and a truck pullin a dory drops a 400plus yd shot of net all the way around my fishn hole......

It's hard to keep a good trout hole secret. Eyes and ears are everywhere. The obvious troughs get netted sporatically. Better to hunt some less obvious sections of beach, have some peace and solitude. One of my most memorable trout days was all alone (except for my wife, who catches her fair share) on Pea Island. Those days when you find them on your own are the best!!!

I hunt those sloughs down the same way,and try to find deserted beach..Hard thing to do nowadays,Pea Island,as you said may be the only strech of beach that can be done on.. Anywhere else,it's gotton so bad when I hook one up I drop my rod tip,so as not to show a bend in it and fight fish from side so no one will see him..
But dem netters are lurkin everywhere.. ![]() |

Those striper netters havc been and gone.. They caught thier quota and MORE.. That means, this Jan thier quota will take even less time to fill because the amount they went over this yr will apply to next yr.
![]() Now all that has to be contended with are the dern speck netters........ ![]() |
