Just wondering if you have been having any luck on the planks.I am coming down the 10th for a week of fishing and relaxing.I need help bad.My fishing partner is my girlfriend and she has been catching all the large ones.On a recent flyfishing trip in NY state she got a huge salmon over 30lb and a trophy size steelhead 14lb.Last year a monster brown trout.I need a large drum or stripper to save face.I lost the last bet a case of wine. But the bet for this trip is I will have to take a bubble bath.Yuk!Please advise I need help bad. Tight Lines Paul

Paul, they are blitzing as I type!! Heard there were 4 put on the deck in 45 minutes last night, haven't heard this morning, but,I'd say they are doin it again.. Me I'm stuck with the work thing. I haven't had the luck I normally have either,it's ok though one drout in quite a few yr of fishn planks ain't gonna stop me from bein a fhb....(send message will explain
) The fish are there, many times you haven't got to cast that far either. The guy that won the pier tourney had never caught one before and couldn't cast 30 yrds... What kind of rod and reel do you have?? ya need something that will handle at least,8 and bait. You don't have to cast long, but,it helps. Do you need suggestions on terminal tackle to use? We are starting to get stripers from Pea Island to Salvo, and Rodanthe caught some last weekend. Lots of pups around, black drum, and BIG roundhead(seamullet) Right now couldn't catch a fish outta a bucket with this dry spell goin on ,but that'll change, just need to adjust my horseshoe and lucky wabbits foot, gettin outta work at little more might help as well...... ![]() |

We had another 6 this morning and 1 or 2 dropped. The alberts were everywhere - 2 were snagged in drum rigs and 1 was caught by a woman bottom fishing. No striped ones this am.

DD Sounds like things are are doing ok.You need to get your mojo back that work thing ruins more great fishermen.I got a oceanmaster 12ft rated 9oz and a diawa 5000emblem x reel on it.I may need to pick up another heaver for my partner any suggestions? The Om is too heavy for a lady I even think it is heavy for myself.I've looked at rods rated about the same but seem lighter in total weight. But of course a little more money. All other rods I have are only rated to 6oz.My surf fishing has been mostly in delaware in late spring or early fall.Tight Lines Paul

Paul there are two copys of the old loomis 1448 blank out now. Both are made in China. One is the Tica, the other I can't remember name of it right now.
I am baseing my opinion on Adam's (don't know what his handle is on here)rod,12 fter,Tica. If it is a true copy of a loomis, and it felt like it was>> I own a loomis and wouldn't give it up for love nor money.. The rod fights a fish better than any rod I have, cast 8 and bait, great sensitivity, and it's extremely light. I have other heavers for casting, but,if I had to pick one to catch stripers and drummies on all the time,it would be my choice.. ![]() |

DD Thanks again! Loomis dose make all nice sticks.I like there fly rods also.I have been reading a lot of good things about the Tica rods seems they are ok for the price.I would not mind paying the higher price. But I only get to use it 2-3 weeks a year.I just may buy a couple of them and sell the OM beast. Some of the guys on SOL seem to like them.I only used it A few days it still looks brand new.Do you know of any shops in the area that stock the Ticas? I'm getting my gear in order and will be leaving here Sat. very early. We are going to spend Sat.evening At Chincoteague Sandy Loves oysters and they got great ones there. Got my copy of The Fisherman today. Great article on stripers in the surf.Got my blood boiling hope I can sleep. Thanks again Paul
