2 oz stingsilver fatties or the conner knock-off available along the OBX. pink and white, chartruese and white, pink, chartruese and white, white with silver flash paper on the sides, chartruese and white with gold flash paper on the sides, plain gold....did i leave any out?
delivered with a 1265 breakaway "spanish buster with a Abu mag elite 6500 CS (levelwind) with 6.3:1 high speed ratio, loaded with 10# test berkley hi vis green big game, and tipped with a 25# test clear shock leader. throw at first light and at dusk, if you don't catch one in pretty short order, change to another color combination. spanish seem to be as bad as trout insofar as color preference. |

Kip is right on for the surf.. Could add the old timey stingsilver,in chrome, has caught a few when the new fancy ones didn't..
Off planks, use a (gotcha plug)they seem to work better from planks with the action they have..Work it fast, jiging rapidly, making it move side to side in water..All kinds of colors work ,but, chartruse and red head seem to be the ticket this yr(20lb flouro leader).. Another idea,if above doesn't work is to tie a 2 oz torpedo wieght to line with about 18 inches or so of flouro (20#test) attach a clarkspoon or dronespoon to it.. Cast out,let sink to bottom, burn it back up to top,and repeat.. Kinda awkward ta cast, but it'll catchem...... ![]() |

Clarkspoon just came out with a Clark Caster that has a bullet weight and spinner blade that attaches directly to a Clarkspoon. This prevents the need for bulkier weights in most instances while adding more flash with the addition of the spinner blade.

i really like the gotchas. never had a problem catchin spanish on them, i personlaly like the electric chicken and the pink/white with black dots gotcha. also stingsilvers work good too. i use a 6'6 (but perfere a 7 footer) shimano compre with a abu garcia record 50 with 12 pound test. for leader i use 25-30 pound flourocarbon. thats for the planks.

I prefer Gotchas off the planks.
And a 2oz Stingsilver from the beach. I've caught them off the planks with the same 2oz Stingsilvers when I need to get out there, though. I'm not too particular with color. However, I've had good luck with the chartruse/pink and white on the Stingsilvers. I've caught em on those Hatteras Glass Minnows, too. I'm not sure who makes those things, but they do work. Here's a pic of them Glass Minnow from the wall at the Baitshack.

these from bps. works as well or better than got-chas as they do have a heavier size and cheaper. comes with sticky sharp vmc hooks(a major plus, but a pain when you snag it somewhere other than the fish). one more thing, many piers are filled with got-cha plugs stuck along the pilings where people have previously snagg before. get some rope(fairly thin rope preferbly) and a 3 oz egg sinker and a treble hook and snag the lure up yourself! jerk jiggers were also used but i have not seen too many of these nowdays. |

They were ok,but the "side to side" was screwed up at times.. When they were going "cattywampus" some folks would slam them on the deck and stomp on em,sometimes that would straighten them out..
Seahawks, which I don't think they make anymore, caught fish also. I think that is where gotchas and jerkjiggers started.. At one time a seahawk had the state record flounder for NC off Frisco Pier... |
