I have seen some pictures of some rather large fish caught from the OBX piers. And was wondering how do you lift these monsters over the rails. It seems to me some are to large for a pier or bridge net.I know this may sound as a dumb question to some but I just got to know. Thanks in advance!

Paul, most times it's a cinch!! Ya hook the fish, fightem and get him belly up along side,(drum, unlike cobes, kings, and jacks, don't seem to PURPOSLY seek out the pilings) so,one guy drops a hoopnet in the water.. (Hoopnet: rebarb weilded in a circle, with net webing attached,so it's kinda like a basket, attached with three ropes joining in to one,so it will lay flat in the water..)after the guy drops net you lead your fish in between the three ropes, and the guy lifts, sometimes with others helping, the fish up to the rail.. There he is tagged, usually, put back in net and lowered then allowed to recover and swim away a happy drummie...
![]() BUT,I have friends that have been out there by themselves that have netted fish by themselves.. NOW THAT'S a trick!! I've almost had to do that several times, but been lucky and got rescued before the event..Last yr gave instructions to an 8 yr old on netting my fish,he did GREAT,actually I think it made his whole trip,he was grinnin like he caught it.. Paul,as you can PLAINLY see,I ain't the best writter in the world but if ya read through the definitions,I hope, you can figure out what I am tryin to say.. ![]() |
