Question

Vacationing here for the first time the week of August 19th with the family and friends. I plan on bringing a couple of rods with me. What can I expect to catch from the surf this time of year? Lures? Bait? Any suggestions you guys can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Chalie

Stop by the local shop first. See what's hot for Spanish, try for them at dawn. Fishfinder rig with squid or cut bait(pick up both while you're at the shop)for flounder. Don't cast out to far, usually get them almost in the ditch(freshwater outfit will even work for this),. Surf rod with fishfinder(with cut bait), chunk it on out.......never know what might be cruising by(don't forget you're sand spike). I usually go about 2-3 weeks later, but that is what works for me.
Hope this helps

Oh, and sometimes if you feel like the night thing.........sometimes get lucky with trout, using shrimp...........................

I'll be down there the following week. August 24th thru the 31st.
I am curious about the beach driving conditions in that area. Is it deep soft sand or more hard packed ??
Would this be considered an easy area to drive on the beach ??

Thanks..

Kml, have been checking the last couple of days, going down Sept. For what I hear now, not much rain, soft, and rutted. Usually take my Nissan 4x4, but if the weather doesn't change, looks like I'll have to take the Ram Charger. After you get near the waterline it's fine. Usually have the worst time, getting up the ramp on the return.

wizardude you can leave the ramcharger at home if you want to. It rained all week long and the beach is very driveable, I just got back today and in spite of the weather we had a great time. I even managed to catch a few fish just soaking squid, mullet chunks and bloodworms. I got a bunch of puppy drum. A few bluefish on metal in the early am hours. Nothing big, but I was just killin time..

Thanks for the update. Looks like we're going to get a years worth of rain before it stops(at least here in Va). Maps last time I checked, showed something nasty coming off the African coast

Glad you caught a few and had a nice trip
