Three families of us will be renting a house in Avon NC. August 19-25. 5 of us would like to charter a boat to go offshore for Tuna, Dolfin or Wahoo. We would also like to go Bottom Fishing a day. Any Recomendations as we have no clue where to start looking.
Thanks

I am not really familiar with OBX, but my friend went on the Dog House out of Nags Head and really enjoyed it. He had a great time.

Thumbs up

I had a charter out of Oregon Inlet on 6-6-02.It was a spur of the moment idea.We fished on a boat called the "Point Runner"The captians name was Dave and the mate was Keegan. These guys love to fish and worked hard.I never saw a Capt.Work so hard. Both are young looking but don't let that fool you.I don't think the Capt.owned the boat I think he just runs it on weekdays. Our catch was all gaffer dolfin with a nice Wahoo added in.Total catch was 361lb.We were done by noon and back at dock before 2pm.our choise. There was no sense in catching any more and the tuna weren't to be found that week.If you want to get ahold of this boat or others call Oregon Inlet Booking desk ask for Jeff he is a very nice guy really helped me a lot.He will get you on a good boat.Ask for point runner if capt.dave is on he will go the extra mile to get you fish.Good luck

From where you are staying, Hatteras inlet is probably the closest spot for you to get a boat. Two good boats down there are the Sea Creature and Tuna Duck.

If you feel like taking a ride out onto Ocracoke, Capt Ernie Doshier of The Gecko is a very good captain.

There are plenty of good boats out of Oregon Inlet. I've been fishing out of there for years on 12-15 different boats most of whom were very productive. As far as bottom fishing, head out to Hatteras Village and go out on the Miss Hatteras. This is a very clean boat with lots of good fishing. Most of the people going out are tourists packing only lunch and sun tan lotion and use the boat rods but don't let that stop you. This captain knows his stuff. Be sure to bring along your own gear including some spinning tackle as there could be Bonito, Wahoo and Dorado passing the boat while on anchor. Last time I went out we even had a 400# +/- Thresher shark right behind the boat. We could'nt get rigged up fast enough for that unexpected guest but he did get us all soaking wet when he jumped out of the water.

Good luck and enjoy.

Hans
