Hey all...
Seems like a few SOL folk will be down that-a-way this coming weekend (Coolerpup, Supafly, and JohnM too name a few that already mentioned it). I too will be down there for an annual trip with friends. In the past we've done more hanging out than serious fishing but over the last two years I have really gotten the "surf" bug. So I plan on fishing a harder this time.
I was wondering how I might recognize the other SOL'ers out there. I'll be in a red Jeep Wrangler with a home-made rod rack on the front bumper bracketed by NJBBA and NCBBA plates. PA license plate on the rear.
Look forward to chattin with a few of you.
See you on the Beach!

it's gonna blow....we may bail. The decision will be tomorrow.

I ain't driving 6 hours for dirty water. Joel and Wormy both may stay home too.

Save that drive for when it matters..

Well.... JohnM made the right call..... Not only dirty water but 3 days of 20-30 mph winds can really wear you down.... Chase that with rain and you have a rough weekend.... and only two 9" blues to show for it.... Granted I never did make it to try to fish the actual point itself. The sand blasting out there was a bit much.
Did Coolerpup do anything?

Beacher...
We headed down Thur night and when we got onto the island in Kittyhawak my left rear axle broke sending us sliding down the highway on the brake assembly...no brakes..sparks and flames till we came to rest...at 230am no less. Axle broke right at the brake drum so the drum and tire came off together and got wedged in the wheelwell and didnt blow. Cops came called a towtruck and we rode around trying to find a place to stay and nothing available. So he and his wife invited us to stay with thme and we hung out with her all day fri. They finished my truck on sat am. If you ever have trouble go to Pughs Napa Auto repair in Nagshead. GREAT SERVICE.,..which is hard to find now adays.
Rained its ass off on sat pm so we hit a movie in Avon and I fished sun am and caught one croaker south of the point and one blue on the point mon. am . All in all with the truck breaking down and poor weather, I learned how to relax a little with the wife instead of hurrying all the time to fish. So it wasnt a total loss for us.

ooooph..... Rough weekend! But it seems like you've got the right attitude and made the best of it. Sorry to hear your truck decided to self-destruct but glad to hear that no one was hurt. I guess it could have been worse and the axle could have gone on the beach!

Really nice of the cop to put you up for the evening.... don't think that would happen around here much. They may talk funny but southern hospitality is hard to beat.

Fortunately for you there weren't fish blitzing the beach or Cobia being caught all weekend which would have made that busted axle seem EXTREMELY painful.

Better luck next time.

p.s. What do you do to your truck to make an axle blow while highway cruising?
