I was surf fishing out of Hatteras Village last sept. and catching a lot of blues in the 20" range. I was using a surf fishing rig I purchased at a local tackle shop just north of Hatteras. I am from Pennsylvania and fish from the Deleware/Maryland surf. I cant find this rig up here anywhere and I do not have the technology to take a picture of the lure. It has roughly a 16" leader to a floating cork/wood (maybe 1-2 inch long) out of the float there is hare/bucktale and a hook. There is a socond hook hanging from the first hook. Could anyone please tell me what this rig is called and a tackle shop and phone # to place an order. I hope my discription makes sense.

Thumbs up

They go by several names... "Hatteras Bait Bug" and double hook "Doodle Bug" are a couple, but there's no universal name for 'em, and most are either just made up by the local shops or by small regional / local rig builders. I noticed you posted fishing at Broadkill; a little scouting expedition thru the local Delaware shops ought to turn those up for you next time you're in the area. R&R, Bill's, Old Inlet and B&R are all likely sources.

Thanks bill for the name however I tried all of those shops and no luck. At bills they said they never saw a rig like that and asked me where I picked it up. I will try to call a tackle shop at the obx and see if they can send me a few.

They tend to act ignorant at Bill's sometimes. Guess it depends who's on duty. B&R (302 539 6243) definitely has had them although they, and some other area shops, are still replenishing their stocks for the local surf fishing season, and may be currently out of them, but just temporarily.
