Here is a photo of the Cobia I caught Monday at the point. First one I ever caught - What a surprize! It was an awesome fight, 17 lb test on a 525 Mag. I think I have to find more time to go fishing for Cobia!

I have some friends down in Kill Devil Hill and I'm thinking about visiting some time in the winter. Can anyone get into what the best time for maybe some big stripers, black drum or anything that is around that area in the winter.

Congrats on the Cobia!!! I hope to get her mamma in a few weeks.

Chipwood,
the OBX is known for RED Drum. There are a few small Black Drum (<10 lbs) in the surf and there may be bigger ones on nearby offshore wrecks/structure.

The best time for your visit would be anytime in October, November, or December. The earlier you go in that time frame the better the chance of Red Drum. The later in that time frame, the better the Striper fishing. Bluefish could possibly show up anytime during those months.

I think you have stolen my luck. LOL. Give it back, I will need it for the Vineyard. The reason why I'm saying give back my luck, is because when you guy aren't fishing with me or even sometimes fishing with me I normally get a big fish other then the last time we were at the Vineyard when you got that 26/27 pounder on the Fly rod. Talk to u soon. Team Parker lost last time, so team Eric and I will win again. Keep me posted on the fishing down the shore. I heard you got weakies last weekend. Later on Dan

Congrats,
What a great fish. Did you weigh it? Cause it looks like you're straining a little there LOL. Again nice feat especially in that crowd on 17lb. Way to go.

JesseS.... Beautiful fish! I don't know how tall you are but I'll bet that fish is pushing 80 lbs. Maybe bigger. Keep those pics coming of those fish you are catching. Schedualed a family vaca to OBX at the end of June. Hope the Cobia are still around when I get there. Congratulations and I hope you catch a bunch more.

JesseS...I've caught some biguns from the boat when I lived in Louisiana, but never a cobia that big from the beach. Must have had your hands full. Hope you break the century mark this weekend. Good luck!
