we have a place down there, but in all honesty, the fishing is pretty lousy. i say that in comparison to a place like cape hatteras. with that said, i have managed to catch SOME fish early in the morning and late in afternoon from the surf. the beaches get really crowded during the peak sun bathing hours and makes it difficult to make long casts because of all the boogie boards and swimmers. i do see people have SOME luck with pompano in close to the beach. i mainly enjoy throwing lures and use bait sparingly for big drum.

emerald isle is a wonderful place don't get me wrong, and i go there to relax. in fact, just as soon as i finish typing this, i will be on my way. they are also in the process of beach renourishment and that will kill off everything in the surf for some time. pine knoll shores has just about finished their renourishment and i think that EI will begin after the tourist season. the sand that is being pulled up is almost black and takes a while to return to a more "pleasing" color. with the dredging taking place right off the beach it should improve things for fishing if it doesn't flatten out again. that is the main problem with the beach as it lacks any structure. you can walk out generally a couple hundred yards without going over your head in depth.

i will try and do a littel fishing this weekend and will let you know when i get back. since we have a place down there and getting to know some of the locals, i am beginning to get some "insider" information about where to go for a better chance at catching fish. anything that i learn, i will be ha[[y to share.
