Fished 3/8 to 3/10.
3/8 -Water 57, winds light SE. Got there about 10am with great bunker. 1pm sweet 48in Drum which fought like a Striper-released.
3pm very very fat 39 in Striper which fought like a Drum- 31 lbs!! she was. Much roe and whole bunker. Fillets were about 2 in thick.
7 pm 43 in striper which fought like a wet towel. Thought I had grass and finally got one little wiggle in the wash. Released.
3/9- water 58 am 60 by pm inds light south. One 39 Striper which kicked my butt and I was sure it was a Drum. Donated to some local guys I know from there. It sucks when Stripers keep taking your Drum baits. I mean they have my utmost respect but I went down there for Drum; but at least a couple fought like Drum. Got spoiled after we all had an AI striper bonanza last Fall I guess. About 1 pm caught and released a 29 in pup. Grass got real real bad on the last 3 outgoing tides.
If you moved up the beach about 1/2 mile it was tolerable. I did see one other fish caught the whole weekend a prehistoric, humped back, ugly huge bellied 48 incher just after mine was caught. This fish looked like 70 lbs from up the beach. Can't believe it was only 48 in. I think its on their web site. Nancy said there was a school of drum spotted at the inlet day before we got ours. Somehow word got out there was a drum blitz down there and it was wall to wall Sat and with all that coverage not a bite. Still trying to figure how 2 drums makes a blitz but we all know how that goes. I was grateful for the comraderie however as it was mostly the Point pros that showed including Joel, John M, Spicer and big Ed. BTW John M I left that spot to fish the entrance due to grass at sunup today and tide was going out after lapping our tires. I saw no need to wake you all so please don't think I was being rude. I was guardian of the tides this morning as I was up and fishin by 3 am so I was keeping close watch. Great weekend. Coldest water (57deg) big Drum I ever caught. There goes my 60 degree theory right out the window.
Oh yea winds west going nw hard when I left.

Fantastic CG! I'll be there in 3 weeks...should be about perfect. As far as the crowds, they will be tolerable because they will never be as bad as the Point.

I guess the stripers had spunk cause they were at the upper ranger of water temps and the drums don't cause they were at the lower range.

Are you guys talking about Okracoke?

I'll be in Avon next week, Thur-Sun. Don't know how much fishing I'll get in as it 'open the cottage' time.

Sure would like to catch my first big red drum! I won't fish on the point. Usually fish the south side, keeping an eye on what's happening on the point.

BM,
It takes me about 10 hours from out here on Long Island. I will be there the week after Easter as a representative Yankee.
Great place, for vacation. check out beachfront houses on www.surforsound.com or www.outerbeaches.com.

It was killing me being up here on that SW last weekend, Just knew you got one or two or three. Fish caught in all 4 places while you were there. Cold front all week-hope water temps stay. There for Easter weekend winds permitting. Doesn't look favorable this weekend but still early to tell. See any more stripers. Don't you hate it when they take your Drum baits? Waiting for research report?????
