I am planning a trip to the Outer Banks next year. Can anyone give me advice on what the best or longest pier might be? Also, could you tell me which month out of June,July or August would be the most preferred to fish from the piers(due to weather, quality or quantity of fish). Any info would be helpful. Thanks, Rob

Depends on what you want to catch..and the size gear you have to use.
If you are after, trout, blues, spanish...I would say June....if you have big gear and want cobia or kings....June....for big drum, I would say Oct. on a NE wind. July and Aug. will have croaker, some grey's, whiting, pompano....nothing real big. For the big stuff off the end, you'll need heavers, anchor rods, etc. B. Myers |

Sounds like the end of June would be a good time to go. Can you recommend a pier? Are they all about the same length or is there one pier that stands out from the others? King mackerel and drum are good on the table. I would probably try to fish for the kings. Rob

Rob,
Big drum most likely will not be around in June. Maybe a few strays....but no big bites...besides, you can't keep them anyway. Puppy drum, 18-27" are always a possibility. Rodanthe or Avon pier...or if you are going late June, you may wanna try Kitty Hawk, Outerbanks pier, etc. up Nags Head-KDH area. Cobia would be the likely catch that time of year off the pier ends...kings should show up a little later (early July). B. Myers |

Thanks for the response. I guess it will all depend on when the family can go. I'll just be prepared for anything. Rob
