hi guys,

we did hatteras last year around nov 8th. had a great time catching big drum at the point. this year we booked the trip a little later around nov 22 for the week.

it seemed like last year we got lucky on the drum because the water was warm, but bad for stripers. it looked like last year when we were down that it was one of the last good weeeks for drum. do you think the 11/22 trip is good for drum or do you think we should concentrate on stripers?

thanks

I know last year there were close to a dozen big drum landed from Avon pier (just N of Buxton) on Nov. 27. All depends on water temps - which should be a little warmer at Cape Point.

Well I will be there that weekend. Its turkey day a long 4 day weekend. As for what to expect, its all depends on water temps......last year the stripers were a bust, a couple shots and that was all. The big drum might be gone depends on the water temp 65ish being the magic number. There will be pups around for sure. Bass maybe.......but my thinking is that I will be looking for stripers on nov 22 not big drum, but ya never know

I would do both...as far as loking for bass.

If the Point is not reporting bass then head north. Last year some where caught off the Point a T-day and some schools were up at OI as well.

Fall is alot of running finding those fish on the beaches....

Big drum...with temps around 60-65 and a SW.....drum should be there- year before last on New Years, the boats wrecked BIG drum on the shoals...in JANUARY!!!! The wind went SW and everyone was expecting a drum bite...however, it din't go SW hard nor long enough to get the fish in. It's all about water temps., fish accordingly.
