My family and I are taking a much needed vacation at Salvo next week. I am a rod builder from NY and an avid fin addict. I need help as to what to bring, where to go, when and hoe to do it and who to talk to. Please respond soon. Thanx Rusty

Check with Mike White or one of the other fellas at Hatteras Jacks in Rodanthe. They will be on your right heading south. When you get into Rodanthe, start looking to your right, they have a smallish sign and it sits off the road. They can give you the latest reports etc. I also echo what Derf said. Now its slim pickens off the surf. Mostly small fish such as Sea Mullet (KingFish), small Blues, Pompano, maybe a Spanish Mackeral.
If ya get the chance, head south into Frisco and fish around the pier. Good Luck, AllenC |

yep..check in at Hatteras Jack in Rodanthe...he has a 30' boat for sale sitting in front of his place...he can give you the skinny on what's happening around there and he also has rental skiffs to go back in the sound on. (he does guide too)
I was down last weekend, really to check on our camper but fished none the less. Real slow- even spanish were hard to find. After dark, shrimp on a bottm rig will get you all the croaker you want...all are really to small to eat, but big enough to be live lined out on the heaver. ![]() I did beach on small shark that nibbled at a croaker and one that crushed another 9" or so croaker. I saw the bait getting nervous, via the rod tip...got the rod about the time the clicker went off and set up on the fish. Once I felt the weight, really nice fish- couldn't bring the rod up much past 10' oclock he bit me off...it was fun for those few seconds though. (you may wanna watch where you swim... )I did catch a small grey trout when trying to collect croakers for bait. As Derf has said...summer fishing- don't expect too much. The catwalk at night may get you a few stripers- mostly schoolies but fun none the less. During the day- try the wash for pompano if the water is clear and you find alot of shells on the beach. Good luck! B. Myers |
