Im waiting for my first heaver to come in. Its a 11.5 Pinnacle, I know its not the best rod out there but hopefully it will get the job done. I might head down there before the summers over, no big deal if I dont get any thing big, but the beauty of the place is worth it. I usually head down a few times from the last week of december into January. Are the biter sharks still around?

Mostly spanish in am and pm. Derf you'll be playing Russian Roulette that time of year as it is peak hurricane season and that place seems to get evacuated quite often. Unfortunately, they seem to to be the bulls eye fot those west African storms. I sure hope they get spared again this year but supposed to be a busy hurricane season.

I was down there last week with the family. Nothing too great on the fishing end of it. Mostly small weak fish and croakers.
I did see my pole heading east one night when I went up the back 10 steps to the truck. Whatever it was that pull my pole and spike out of the sand was kind enough to bite through the 80lb mono leader before my equipment hit the ocean. I also saw a guy pull in a 26" puppy drum on the Rodanthe pier. |

I went last weekend....
Good N. wind blowing most of the weekend, had a pretty good swell coming in- 5-6'. I saw a few spanish...and one small cobia, about 33" or so. I didn't fish the point or anything at night, but I imagine little croakers and the occassional biter would be around. We caught a few grey trout, spot, and small croakers fishing the bottom. Avon pier did have a nice 42" drum Sat. morning... With the north wind the water cooled pretty good between Fri. night and Sat. night...atleast were we were. Few more weeks and the northern beaches oughta begin to turn on... ![]() B. Myers |
