I'm heading down next Friday from Connecticut. I'm not familiar with Cobia fishing. Are you catching these from the beach and if so what do you use for bait. I have a 10 foot ugly stick and a great white surf reel with 20lb. test. Also have an 8lb. flyfishing outfit. Can I use either of these to catch THOSE!!!!! Thanks in advance for your advice. Joe

Big Luke,
Most are using stout 12' "heavers" rated to throw 10 ozs+. 20# line with a reel that can hold atleast 200 yds...more is better. Throw your Ugly Stick out and see what happens. Make sure you have a 40-50# shock leader on your set up so when it gets in the wash you have a better chance of landing him. 15' or so should work on a 10' stick. The 8 wt. fly rod- I wouldn't bother unless you are in a boat...and then I don't know- you'd have to have alot of backing. ![]() Good luck, B. Myers |

you bet!!!!
Let me know and I'll send you some cash for them. Thanks! Brian PS- that Lami is nice...I like it when the wind is really humping...to me it's easier to swing than the 12'6" Outcast....but don't get me wrong...my OC is my go to stick...I finally got one with some good mojo on it... ![]() |

Thanks for pics Derf. You definitely put me there. Will be there whole July 4th week with family. Becoming a tradition over the years unfortunately by then its end of Cobia season at the point although I understand they catch em all summer at the inlets off the beach. Do love to chase spanish and fish for critters with the heavers at night. Point gets empty at night once Drum are gone.
Hooked a Tarpon last year on my spanish tackle at sunrise. Kind a hard to turn a 100 lb Tarpon on 6 lb mono but will never forget the surprise. Yea Gil, Cobia kind look like a saltwater catfish with razor dorsal plates. AlLmost like a huge Redhake. FISH ON! CG |

Steve M. I'll be in the white dodge with drum stickers on cap and big cooler rack on front. If I'm not at the point I'll be at Hatteras Inlet if crowds get too bad. Drop by and say hey.
