Anyone been down to the OBX this past weekend or this weekend. A buddy of mine owes me a little money, and he is planning on heading down this coming Thur. and he offered to pay my way. who am I to argue. Planning on arriving late Thur night into early Fri morn.
Now which rod/reel combo should I use.
For rods I have a 2pc/1pc and a Lami GSB 1361MH. For reels I have the new Daiwa sl-x20shv, mag525, and 7500 Abu big game.
I am alos thinking of adding weight to the butt of the 2/1 for added leverage for the pull down with the left, punch with the right. Not sure yet though. who else will be down next weekend? May17-20

Derf, I also take EVERYTHING. If they made something bigger than a suburban, Id be in it. I was just wondering what outfit to start with. The 2/1 with the daiwa on it or the 525mag and the lami. Just lookin for opinions. Thanks,

Cool

just got back from a couple of days at the "point". the bite such as the one John M experienced was not duplicated, although the conditions were prime, the fish (in large numbers)were a no-show. B Meyers did score a 44" with a 28" girth saturday evening around 8 PM and has my vote for replacing John M's mug on the opening page - sorry john!! i don't think that there will be a lot of large drum again in the surf until fall, but there is always the chance. there were several spanish caught and the cobia are not far behind. the recent northeast blow has added an addiitonal 250 yards onto the end of the point since mid-april. another strong SW can take it off again, one thing for sure is that it is always changing. have a great time

Cool

thanks for the nod Kip...Wormy did score a 49 1/2" w/ 33" girth and I bet your lights hadn't cleared the ramp yet...that was the last fish of the night.

The lightening picked up and the current dropped out...well before high tide..(???)

Xpierrat and Frankie were the only ones fishing when we left...they ended up with nothing- hard N. wind this morning and the beached were about vacant.

Glad to see you got back safe,,,enjoyed it, see you next time.
