Question

I will be down in Hatteras the week before Easter (April 8-13). Any information as to what can be around at that time in the surf would be greatly appreciated. I have a 4x4 and will be renting a house around the lighthouse and I also wanted to know if there are any permits that I will need to drive the beach? Tahnks for any response.

Shawn welcome to SOL.

First off you dont need any permits to drive on the beach south of Nags HEad. There are ramps all along the entire island. Just pay attention to the signs and be careful, sometimes the tide can trap you on the beaches north of the point.

Fish wise that Big Drum TIme. HEavers, 8& bait will be the game on the point. Fresh bunker is a prefered bait for drum. Thats what I will be fishing for. There might be some smaller stuff around. I am sure the little blues will be in, maybe the sea mullet, not real sure on that stuff.....

the magic water temp is about 65 and if its blowing SW the point is the place to be......

I have planned on being there easter weekedn for 4 days, so I might see ya as your leaving......

John M thanks for your help and Tim thanks for your help. I will be coming down with my fiance and dog for the whole week (it was her idea!!) before Easter. We are staying in Avon. I am hoping to fish quite a bit with a few (one) day sight seeing. I will be driving a black four door Explorer with PA plates and cooler rack. Any other info. would be greatly apperciated. Thanks

I am gonna try and head down there the last week in March if conditions look good for a Big Drum bite. Thats when I have my spring break. I was there two years ago for the same week and they had a big drum bite one nite but I was very unprepared tackle wise. I gotta catch one of those Big gals this year.

John if you are heading down this spring and wanna carpool let me know. My funds are pretty low cause I am still in school but I would like to get down there for a weekend or two. I am in Newark De, which right near where you probably get on route one. I am also into the shoestring budget thing and I don't mind sleeping in a truck.
