June is the month for the Big Cobia. They catch them at the point and on the piers on king rigs. I don't know how consistent it is at the point but I am curious too. XPierrat and JohnM know more about this than me.

Cobia huh? Now yer talking....... thats some great fishing. we had them inthe surf last year in June. They are nto thick but they are there for sure. Best time is June, watch the weather and reports for when they show. Laster year we had them second and third weeks of June pretty good. Same set up as drum, Bunker is the bait. The whole key is to lay the bait on the clean water line. You need clean water to get cobia. The fish Derf refered to was my buddy Joel he took one 61.5# there were many caught that weekend. Here si a pic of one of the others fish, you can see more ont he photo page at http://www.hatterasoutfitters.com/.

I have seen Cobia on the Point as early as the middle of May. A guy next to me hooked up, and the Cobia took him at least 1/2 mile north of the point before he finally got it in. It weighed 63lb. We were at Dillons weighing Blues and Spanish when he brought it to the scales.

Adrian., its aheaver thing. These fish are tough and you need a read club to land them. Add in the current and such and oyu have your hands full for sure. Standard drum set up is what we use. June is the best month, the cobia usually thin out late june early july.... I will be there alot this year, might even take a whole week to chase em

some other things caught last year while cobia fishing, JAck Cravalle, Sand tiger sharks to 200#, numerous other shark 50# average, big drum, spanish mackeral, small blues.........

Ditto, First week in June with calm, clean water. Like Mid morning best. Of course I'm the one that usually gets those 100+ sandtigers and 50 lb sandbars while others get the cobia. You can actually see them cruising the surf often behind the rays. It can be a beautiful sight. See ya there. Yea I was there when Joel was wetting his line and after tossing a bare hook with a shiny new weight and a red bead to get out the kinks hooked up on a Jack Crevalle which he fought at least 1 1/2 hours on a stout heaver. Once the drum leave it ain't over yet.

Default i wanna go!

This weekend sound good?!

John, you planning on a trip this spring or do you even know yet? This past summer when I wasn't pier fishing I was trying from the surf, of course I was there at the wrong time (sometime in August). But I'm really wanting to become an expert cobia fisherman from the surf this upcoming year.

From what I know they can be caught in the surf better some time of the yearn others as mentioned and they can be caught off piers most of the time and of course a boat always increases your chances but for a land bound angler like me try a pier they can be caught quite frequently off them

While I was down there at the end of july someone caught a small one off of avalon pier under 10 pounds and conditions weren't good so I take it that they are caught off piers quite frequently the beach is a different story.
