I just spun out 2 doz. plugs in no time. the bit thats in there now is only plain steel, the first chance I get I'm hitting the store for a carbide bit.[sorry for the big pic] I forgot to down size. now If the wood is already round it only takes 0ne slow pass an the plug is done, abit o sanding its finished. If the stock is square, maybe 3 passes are needed thats it.best part is theres no tear outs of any kind. Just keep the bit SMALL in dia.....good luck.

Capesams, I tried that idea about 3 months ago but I guess I must have used the wrong style bit, I used a 1/4" straight bit and it didn't workout to well. I should try again but this time use a veining bit like you did. Boy, that ought to speed things up a bit and reduce the sanding so the copies are more exact.

Most excellent idea. Are you using Starboard for the base for the router? How are you dealing with chip collection? When you use the router against the router, what speed are you running the lathe at or doesn't it matter?

Yes, the base is starboard[white]. I use my sears sucker. works fine for the dust, but the chips I just let fall where they may. After I'm done I just vac the rest up[kinda].Don't get to picky cause I'm just going to do more plugs. besides it smells sooooooooo good.
