Weather was fine here in DC. What kind of weather could have caused school to be cancelled in DE? I can't imagine that it could have been that cold or had a lot of snow.

We had less than an inch of snow in west Sussex Co. I think a little farther east they may have had 1-2" in the fields, but not stuck on the roads. Soon they will cancel schools for rain.

Just found this on the New England MFC web site:

INDIAN RIVER INLET TIDAL POWER PROJECT
Plans to construct a tidal power demonstration project in Indian River Inlet, Delaware, are
advancing. Although application has not as yet been made for state or federal permits, project
proponents anticipate developing a feasibility project using a single unit within the year, and
proceeding to commercial production by 2006. Each unit consists of twin, reversible turbines
that are 20 ft wide, 10 ft high, and 16 ft long; the final design is for 28 units (10.8 MW) to be
phased in over a 4-5 year period.
Indian River Inlet provides the principal means of ingress and egress for migratory organisms
using the Delaware Inland Bays, which collectively provide nursery and feeding habitat essential
to dozens of species managed by the Magnuson Fishery Management Councils and/or Atlantic
States Marine Fisheries Commission. Potential impacts of the generating units (e.g., vibration,
entrainment, impingement, pressure changes) on living marine resources have not been
addressed. The University of Delaware, College of Marine Studies, has been suggested to
design studies to address biological impacts. Some data should soon be available from a similar,
but nontidal, project that was recently permitted in the Yukon River, Alaska.

I will be there! The lastest proposal has moved the turbines to teh north side of the inlet so it won't bother boat fisherman but the northside rocks will most likely be off limits to fisherman. There has to be effect on the striper population also. I am also worried about the bay. This will be very harmfull

Mah friend Plug is not gonna be happy about that

North side? I thought these things were gonna take up a fair amount of the inlet's width?

The latest proposal is to tether 26 pairs of turbines on a single cable anchored from the tip of the north jetty to the footing of the proposed new bridge at a depth of 14 feet to ensure 5 feet clearance at mean low tide. THAT configuration would for all intents and purposes destroy fishing on the north side from the jetty to the bridge. The turbines would have to be serviced at least once a year further limiting access. The plan is to add a 20 foot extension on the new bathhouse to house the 'monitoring station' that will be fed by an underground cable connected to the aforementioned cable. I heard this information face to face from a guy in a tackle shop who was distributing posters about the meeting from, I assume, UEKUS.

What scares the hell outta me is that with these plans already in place ... where was the public input PRIOR to the modifications being approved? The taxpayers are paying for the new bridge (in large part) and the new bathhouse.

From the tone of the guy I talked to, he sure had all the answers .... windfarms make noise and kill birds ... there's a sweet spot created behind every turbine that holds fish ... why wouldn't you be able to fish there? blah, blah ...

Be prepared for a real dog and pony show.

Hi guys,
Just read through this post and the earlier one and am wondering if an Environmental Impact Study has been done yet or is this too early in the game?

I wish you luck on this.
