Default The long

fall ahead is just starting to begin. The weather is getting more fallish each day and the changes in weather conditions are clear signes we need to look at other species to fish on in order to keep busy.

Most of the bass have left the local haunts, but a few that are putting in a whole lot of time are still able to scratch up one or two under size or just legal fish.[During the early morning changes"

More and more Gannats are appearing along with migration Comarants and a few sea ducks.

Gulls working bait along the edges of the east end have declined and are sitting down more then they are flying.

No signs of any Blue Bullets yet, but hopefully soon.

Cape Cod bay still has enough bait holding to keep the Blue fin Tuna around and that is a good thing as hopfully we are planning to get out next week for one more trip. We were blown away from our last attempt, but if the weather holds who knows. The boat will have a pair of 130 pound class reels to break in,if we can find a way to secure them with out losing them.[New holders are a must with these babies]

So long Momma Bass and Momma Blue fish, hello smelt and Blue Bullets

Was down at Bell rd. this morning helping pick up trash and there had to be 300-400 eiders in the backwater of the flats against the rock wall on the east running tide. That's a real sign of what's to come.

I'd like to be introduced to Mr Smelt.

However, after Thanksgiving I'll be digging quahogs and maybe a few oysters each week for kicks, and some good eating.

Might grab the binocs and a coffee and head down tomorrow a.m. Got 2 new pencils to try out also. Smaller one weighs in at 2.35 oz. and could be a winner.

Watched the rafting eiders and diving gannets today. Great rafts of birds, great flocks of birds diving on bait further out. Flocks of Canada geese flying in their classic "V"s overhead. And local folks selling their cranberries and Eastham turnips from their Family farms. It's Autumn again out here. Time to scratch for some quahogs and softshells. If I'm very lucky, I may find a bay scallop or two. This time of year is the best, time slows , you can hear your own thoughts, the outside noises fade, and you regain sync with the world. I love this time of year..

Wednesday is a holiday for me, and it's an open shellfishing day in Bourne. Time to break out the rake again

Default A fish

that swims like a Bullet in the water and it is a blue green hue in color with stripes that run verticle

Most preditor fish enjoy eating them as do many humans

They arrive in the spring right after the bass arrive and can migrate all the way up to the coast line of Maine and beyond. They reproduce in long time historic area breeding grounds like Boston Harbor and Buzzards bay and not in the deep waters of our coast line.

They leave the local waters after the water starts to chill and most times after the Bass and Blue fish have also left and then head back to the winter deep water habitat. If we get lucky they start to make an appearance inside the canal in large numbers sufiecient enough that we can actually have some fun catching them to eat or hold for bait until next year

The spikes will start to come out of the breeding grounds as the main schools of mature fish school up to make there fall journey home .

We are speaking about one of the most copied fish for artificial plugs, metel the King of speed and grace MR>MACKEREL

You'll have a good shot at these blue bullets from shore once you see the New Bedj armada off the east end green cans.

Thumbs up

We jigged the blue bullet from McMillan Wharf in P-town this past Columbus day. Gutted them and grilled them whole until dry. Just awesome!

I need to take it to Ribb and get it re-toothed---I'm missing one tooth.

Last winter and spring we found a honey hole of recently planted transfer stock where the raking was stupid easy, or I would have had it done then.
