I am not familiar with Santa Rosa. How much snow do you get in an average storm? Is it heavy wet snow or the dry and fluffy kind?

Not a very good machine.

Try to find an Arien's, Honda, or Toro . First thing that I look for when checking out a new snow blower is grease fittings on the auger shaft if I dont see them I dont waste anymore time looking at the machine. Yard Machine or MDT don't have them.

How much snow do you get? Is it usually wet or dry snow? Snow blowers don't like wet snow.

I actually recently moved to Oregon. I believe the snow is the soft fluffy Stuff. I'd guess it gets a 2-3 feet deep here.
Not much more because the Trees. A storm would produce maybe a foot

I would be looking at a 2 stage snow thrower for those conditions. This year I believe Troy-built and Craftsman snow throwers scored highest in tests by consumer reports. I have had troy-built and simplicity machines and no complaints on either. Whatever you get make sure you have a reverse gear, extra belts and shear pins. Snow throwers seldom fail except when it is storming outside.

MTD=JUNK

Do yourself a favor, buy a Honda! They're on the expensive side but it's the last blower you'll ever buy.

I have a snow blower and a plow on my John Deere. The plow is way faster and less trouble.

MTD is on the bottom of consumer reports list, be careful with the cheaper Craftsmans, they are made by MTD as well.

MTD now makes:
MTD
Yard Machines
Troy Bilt
Cub Cadet
The John Deeres at HD & Lowes
Husqvarna (Also HD & Lowes)
White
Bolens
Yard Man
Some Craftsman

If you buy one at a big tag store IT WILL BE MADE BY MTD!
Like I said earlier, spend the extra $$$$ now, it will save you in the long run.

Again, buy the Honda. They make the best blower out there. If not a Honda, buy an Ariens (not one of the ones from the big stores)

Ariens is the best snow blower by far. Good $$ but the best. I have a 9hp 28 inch Craftsman and have had 0 problems. I replace the skid plates every 2 years and keep the belts tight. The Techumseh engine runs great. This machine was around $750 new.
I won't need it anymore once I move into a ertirement community. Drive to NJ and you can have it for $500

I have the 10hp Yard machine and for the money and expected use, definitely worth it. The only problem I've had is the ethanol gas gumming up the carb, but that problem is preventable.

A real ariens or honda. anything else is junk. Simplicity may be ok, i havent seen one in a while. you get what you pay for when i comes to snowblowers.

Ariens all the way. Can't stop them. 8hp 26" maachine cuts right through a foot and a half of heavy wet snow pushed by the road plow without a stumble. As with anything in life....you get what you pay for.
