I sure all will work out good for you, i have the '09 Outback and so far so good, it's working great. KFS, Shipwreck, Hobie, Capt. Kayak are all great people; I'm sure that all will work out great and good luck with the fall run!

There is a simple soloution to your problem. Its what Hobie does at the factory normaly. Remove the lock and place two large stainless washers under it and tighten it back down. Your Good to go!!!

Barrell, you're right... when I spoke with Hobie, they said they used to use large stainless washers to elevate the click-n-go buckles early on, but since then have made plastic shims to give a more finished appearance.

These are the shims that Hoibe recommened to me.... and the guys @ KFS are going to try... they are also replacing out the click-n-go buckle as well just to make sure it wasn't a combination of a couple minor misalignments...

I'm dying to get out on the water after seeing Shipwreck's albies...

I gotta give proper recognition to SHIPWRECK (HOBIE & KFS fishing team) and the KFS GUYS (esp CRAIG the manager & Rob? the shop owner) for the fantastic customer support !!!

Had the same problem and Hobie overnighted shims to my dealer. It was a quick job for him to install them and it solved the problem.

The dealer also had another craft at the shop with the same problem. The serial #s of the two showed they were very close in production. It may have been just a certian run that need shimming

I just bought a Pro Angler a month ago. I had the same problem and found I had not seated the front of the drive correctly and some junk had washed under the locks. I cleaned up the mess and reseated the drive. So far so good but I will watch for the problem to happen again. Thanks for the thread to give us all a heads up.

yeah, it took like 2-3 weeks for KFS to get parts from Hobie and install them....

then i asked Craig to try it out on the water before i pick it up.... this was a couple more weeks...

i don't want to repeat my half day pilgrimage up there and back, and then plan an entire weekend based on kayak fishing....only to find that it still doesn't work...

hoping they've got it fixed permanently.... on Wed, Craig said the Hobie rep said it was OK... i'm assuming he put it on the water and tested the rear drive mounts thoroughly.... i guess we'll see...

I would have demanded a replacement! Talk about ruining the "new" experience! I have a Pro Angler and I love it....but if I had a long protracted issue like that I would have demanded a refund or a replacement!

so i picked it up last weekend, but the wind had picked up too much to launch in the dark... so i didn't get a chance to test it on the water yet.... Craig said that the Hobie rep had put it on the local pond and that it was ok....

but from looking at the Hobie fix (a couple stamped riser plates that go under the click-n-go mechanism) although the mechanism was raised ~3mm and probably more fully engages the cams, the handle still readily hits the hull... and when compared to the front (with no handle-hull contact) the locking cam still does not appear to engage as fully by a millimeter or two....

AT THIS POINT I'M GOING TO DREMEL OFF THE PLASTIC ON THE PART OF THE HANDLE THAT CONTACTS THE HULL, TO MAKE MORE CLEARANCE FOR THE CAM TO ENGAGE....

i hate to have to do this to a new boat but i don't want another fishing outting F'd up from this little issue. but if i have problems even after doing this, then the yak's going back for sure...

keeping your fingers crossed for me.... i plan on taking her out once the winds settle down after this monster storm....

We always remove the footstraps and cut off the two hooks that used to hold the straps. They are just line catchers and not needed.

Yeah those straps are a PITA. I replaced my Hobie pedals entirely with some I found online that are used for exercise equipment. They are slightly larger and are easier on the feet.

Its not the posts on the side of the pedals he is talking about. Its the cam locks. When engaged its a little close to the front of the drive well. I dont think dremeling that down will hurt it at all and prolly will fix it. I wanted to do it the first time I saw it but they wanted to follow the rules.

Let me know how it works, feel free to pm if you want.

Hey Shipwreck,

I just wanted to thank you again for your delivering my kayak up to KFS.

Yeah, I'm probably going to get on the water this week (with my Scooter-fix) .... i'll let you know if it works out the kinks....
