Default Broken Lamiglass surf king

I just recently broke my lamiglass surf king while trying to make a cast (not the rods fault, line wrapped around the first guide that I must not have noticed and broke the rod right where the pieces come together. Only a light crack (seems to be clearcoat) on the top open ended half but the bottom piece split down about 4 inches or so down the rod. Its still barely useable as in it goes together but it is all broken up where the two ends connect. Is there any way of fixing this?

TBStriperKing,

So sorry about your mishap. The ferrule is the weak point in a two piece rod. I am sure your rod have been compromised and will be a matter of time before it break completely. Any fix will only be a bandage.

I am with Ghostfish Slayer on this one. I blew out two SK 11 MHC at the same spot you described. My neighbor blew out one. Save up your money and buy the XS 11 MHC. It is 10 times the rod and carry Lamiglas' standard guarantee.

Good luck.

How many surf kings have they blown up?

Is this a true story or just internet fora (plural form of forum) hearsay?

and people wonder why i am sketchy about 2 piece rods, just proves my point about a 2 piece rod having another failure point which is why i only own 1 piece rods

Put together right.. a Quality two piece ferrule is just as strong as the rest of the rod. I have said in other posts... Chinese made blanks are NOT of quality and they DO NOT take the time to fit ferrules correctly at the factory. That said any blank can break but the way quality blank's ferrules are made today it's not the weak spot! Unfortunate for Striperking he bought a off shore made rod.. I would think Lamiglas might honor the warrenty.. I would even see if they would do a trade up deal and go with a GSB blank!

just one of my friends blew up three of them casting a two oz pencil.. i was with him when he blew up two of them.. KaaPowwww.. one broke above the ferrule and the other in three pieces.. 12 inches down, above the ferrule and right above the label.. the shop replaced the second one with the heavier and he blew that one up too.. after that he got a old d-blue. it lasted a while longer. i ended up pushing him to build a b132.. it made it through the summer so far.. it is a very nice rod.. expensive but it feels so nice.. i had two other friends that blew them up also.. then there is DD i don't remember how many for him.. my friends dad came down to the beach just this summer with a brand new one. he asked me what i thought.. i told him to be careful throwing any wood two oz + with it. a few days later he was using a replacement ugly stick while the shop was dealing with his broken rod.. he told me he broke it on a two oz pencil, then laughed.. there is one of my friends that has one still. he is a member here.. as big as he is and as hard as he cast, i can not believe his lasted a whole season.. he is the only one that i know that has not broken yet.. lucky.. the first one i ever seen on the beach was brand new in three pieces.. i picked up the parts and read the label.. that must have been about five years ago maybe more... unless they changed something i would not recommend them to anyone.. well maybe.. if it meant they had to leave the hot spot all to me due to a broken rod i wouldn't mind..
