Default 706 question

one of the old salts at the beach , told me to shim the handle with washers ,so that the spool is fully extended ,and the handle is furthest from the tip , because inertia will move the handle during a cast. noticed that the spool is in the same place everytime any thoughts on this

I have had a couple of issues with the 706's. When making a cast, the manual arm does sometimes come around at the time of release and catch the line and the roller is extremely shallow and the line gets blown off.
