if it just beach driving, get a hitch... best way to pull it out is the way it went in. hook 'em hitch to hitch and pull.

You could also check the big auction site for hooks. Just got a set for my grand cherokee pretty cheap.

The unibody Cherokees need specific brackets to keep from tweaking the unibody during recovery. Do yourself a favor and get the correct brackets for the front. In the rear, a receiver with a hook is fine.

I believe the OEM chrysler brackets are out of production, so unless you dealer has a set lying around, type rustys offroad into google and go to their recovery section. For less than $100 you get brackets and hooks shipped.

I put these on mine the day after I brought it home and they have worked fine for 10 years. You will have to pull the bumper and bumper brackets off, so get a can of blaster and start soaking them a week ahead of time and figure about 4 hours to get it apart and back together.

Should have been more specific, got a set of hooks meaning OEM brackets and hooks.

Get a set of C4X4 hooks and brackets if you are looking for cheap and one of the best front recovery options out there. I actually think they are cheaper then ones from the stealership and have much better mounting since the brackets run back along the front rails further. Or has been mentioned, get a front receiver hitch.

For the rear not too much is going to beat a class III receiver hitch and D ring. Unless you go the extra mile and get a nice JCR or Detours bumper.

Even using the OEM rear hooks isn't the best since they can pull out of the rails with enough force or angle.

And for safetys sake, do everyone a favor and buy a recovery strap with loops. Don't us a tow strap nor a strap with metal hooks.

Just something to think about...

Vehicle mired to tire depth - Esitmate resistance to be equal to or all of the vehicle's weight

Vehicle mired to wheel depth - Esitmate resistance to be 2X vehicle weight

Vehicle mired to body depth - Estimate the resistance to be 3X the vehicle weight

On my ’94 XJ I went with a class III hitch in back, there are like 5 bolts on each side fastening it to the uni-body. I remember it being a pain to slide the bolts through a small opening at the back of the rail and turn them so they would go through the hitch. I used a long piece of 12 gauge wire with a bend/hook to hold the bolt. Slide it in the hole and when over the bolt hole twist the wire and the bolt drops in the hole… sometimes anyway. If you go to install one you’ll see what I mean.

For the front a C4X4 bumper with 2” receiver and D rings. They have an extension that goes a foot or so more along the uni-body rails. Never had to use either for recovery but the front bumper makes a handy place to secure the OBPA, CHAC and NCBBA plates.

+1 for the PB Blaster for a week before the operation also. Buy two cans, after all it is going to be used in a salt water environment.
