  1. I had the same engine setup on my boat and was able to get about 30-32 mph in Kaneohe bay (flat water and no wind with 2 guys and gear). Prop was a 12-1/4 x 15 3-blade aluminum. Engine height was about as low/deep as it would sit. Hope this helps.
  2. Congrats! Pretty sure that’s the one my friend just sold. First thing would be tennis balls for the scuppers and rig up a line to the bow eye for anchoring if you’re going to dive from it. Enjoy the boat; my friend is already missing it
  3. Look for an original model made by Hobie. I believe they were made until the around 1990 or so. I've heard mixed reviews on the quality of the Razor-made models; seems like construction quality is nowhere as consistent. I had a 1985 Hobie Power Skiff and never had an issue with it (bought it when it was over 25 years old). Read through some of these pages and you'll find a lot of good information on common issues and remedies for pre-owned boats; it was enough to convince me to get an older boat over a brand new one. Keep an eye on Craigslist, set up alerts, have cash in hand, and be willing to drive a little bit to find a deal. With the amount you save over a brand new model you can likely repower and have cash leftover for fuel or to do a little customization.
  4. Get two tennis balls and tie paracord to them. Run the paracord to the console. Plug the scuppers from the inside before launching and your boat will be stay nice and dry. Pull the cord to open the scuppers if you need to drain any water. The boat may take on a little water with the scuppers open at rest but it won't sink.
  5. Just purchased a 1985 HPS a few months ago and am looking to install bow rails and (possibly) side mount rod holders Iin the gunwales. Does anyone have a drawing of or know where the backing plate locations and materials are? I know there available for Boston Whalers but haven't been able to find any reliable information for Power Skiffs. I've spent more than a few hours on google and searching most of the availabe forums and haven't been able to dig up more than the old Hobie brochures. Help?!
