  1. Thanks guys. Sorry I just picked up a 5500 instead. This thread can be closed.
  2. Looking to buy a penn slammer 4500. If anyone is interested in selling one let me what you’d like for it. Can meet in manhattan or Staten Island otherwise need shipping.
  3. Hey this might be a dumb question. I’m looking for a good surf rod to walk the beach and toss plastics with. Would that 1321 be good for that? I live in NYC and get to SI a lot. Are you ever in those areas?
  4. https://nypost.com/2018/05/27/nypd-rescues-kayakers-stranded-in-jamaica-bay/?utm_campaign=iosapp&utm_source=message_app Just saw this story in the post. Sounds scary. Does anybody know what happened? I’m wondering what kind of kayaks these guys were in. Why they couldn’t get back in? I’m glad they made it out alright.
  5. That’s true. You definitely need a solid kayak to be safe. I looked at the sundolphins and they seemed to be very flimsy to me. The eagle talon was much more sturdy and I found it to be seaworthy. From what I understand it is the same boat as the T120 but I’m sure there are other guys here who can shed more light on that than I can.
  6. I started with an Eagle Talon I picked up at Dick's for 450 and I think it was a great kayak to begin with. It's easy to transport, it's very stable, quick enough and tracks well. I had a lot of fun adding in little upgrades, most of which were probably totally unnecessary. I did put in a new seat though which was worthwhile. I had a blast fishing off it for two years but I ultimately wanted to get a peddle kayak. If you're going in the ocean my two cents would be that SOT is definitely the way to go. It's easier to bring gear and IMO it is safer.
  7. Yea you can def Park there at night. It is fine but there are a lot of regulars on that pier at night. The pier is very small and It will probably be somewhat crowded.
  8. I was out in RB too Saturday. Got a nice hit on our way back in to the SI side and landed a 35 incher. Once I had the fish in the boat though we looked up and couldnt see a damn thing, the fog rolled in real quick. Thank god for the GPS otherwise we might have had a problem.
  9. This past fall they were all over NY harbor. almost every time I went black fishing I saw them explode. Didn’t even bother chasing them though honestly.
  10. Same here, I've gotten a lot of schoolies and one that just made it but I really want to get a solid keeper. Also I'm going down to Fl in two weeks and hoping to get a snook or redfish.
  11. I have the YakAttack Anchor trolley, another accessory I added just cuz I was all fired up to do stuff to my boat lol. Honestly I don't use it that often but if you think you will I'd definitely recommend it, it is a great setup and I love the locking mechanism and how it locks in place when not in use. I have been muscling my hobie up onto my roofrack since I got it, I also have a yakroller that works okay but my car and boat have taken some good scratches as a result. Just pulled the trigger on the hullavator and it's worth every penny. Why can't you put it on your SUV? I think it's compatible with quite a few racks, you need an over hang though so it doesn't hit your car coming down. I just went ahead and got Thule Racks and it works great, it was definitely an expensive set up though.
  12. Sounds like you've got a lot of good ideas. I am not familiar with the FF and transducer that your talking about. I would definitely go with the big wheels, it's worth the extra dough and you'll be happy you have them. As far as the rod holders go I would suggest starting out with the rocket launchers. They are cheap, they work well and if they don't fit your rods you can always cut them and make adjustments so your rods sit the way you want. When I got mine I was all excited to modify and was thinking of H-Rails and what not. I wound up putting on a scotty mount rod holder off the left side that works nicely for trolling but honestly I almost don't even use it, I pretty much stick exclusively to the rocket launchers, they are great. I'm glad I didn't go with H-Rails or anything, I think at the end of the day more is less. I'd suggest getting some use out of it and decided what you really need as you go. Enjoy!!
  13. Hey guys, I'm going down to Florida the first week of April and since I'm driving I figured I'd bring the kayak and try to get a few days of fishing in. I'll be in St Petersburgh for a 3 days and then over to the east coast around West Palm Beach for 2 or 3 more. I fished down around West Palm Beach over the summer with a buddy and had a blast. I hooked up with a nice sail fish and got dragged around for about 40 minutes before he spit the hook, it still haunts me. This time I'd like to do better. Can anyone tell me what will be running down there in April? If you can offer up launch spots around St. Petersburgh I'd appreciate it. I'll probably be going solo or with a first time ocean kayaker if I can get a rental, so most likely, easy inshore fishing for me. If anyone down there wants to meet up for a day out I'd definitely be down. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks
