  1. Thank you all again - you have been a wealth of knowledge for the past 12 months and thanks for confirming what my gut was telling me on this topic. If others have info they want to share i am always open to opinion.
  2. Ok so i have been building fishing plugs for a year now and i have had success catching fish in both fresh water and saltwater so thats the good news. I have learned a lot from you all so thankyou! I want feedback about why i should use other types of wood other then pine. I used pine in the beginning because i wanted to learn how to lathe but now im finding it hard to switch wood types. The only plug i make that i dont use pine is the needlefish plug because heavier wood types sink better. The durability of the pine to me is the biggest possible issue but i catch bluefish on my plugs with some damage but i dont mind (stripedbass do less damage so even less an issue). On the science side pine wants to float because of its low density so it makes for good surface or swimming plugs. i value your opinions so give me feedback good or bad! Thanks again for all your info!
  3. i think most will advise VMC hooks - we all like to fish big tackle incase u get the big one. Choice is up to you
  4. When i dont use a stick-on but i still want eyes on the plug i will paint them on by using a back of a nail. Just dunk and stamp it on

Welcome - and you have come to the right place for that information - You have not had responses because your question is not focused enough. So my advice is to look through this site and read read read. Do specific searches here or through google to get more info. Once you have done that for a while come back to the forum and ask more specific questions to this group of experts and they will help ya.
  6. I like it simple and effective!!
  7. I have read about this topic a few times and each time i also read about a test done that was successful. Screw eyes seem to past the test each time and pass it with flying colors!. I would say if your comfortable with the strength and your landing fish its a win/win. I wanted to learn through-wire construction thats the only reason i went that route from the start. I plan on using screw-eyes when i take on the banana plug project im planning.

Thanks Hey rev i am a new builder too and i have been at it for around 2 months now and loving it! I had already experienced kits in the past so this time i bought a lathe and just went for it. My shop now has bandsaw, drill press, bench sander, grinder (for lathe tools), chop saw, hand drills and a swimming tank. Some of the tools i had some i bought. My finishing area has a paint booth i built and spinning drying rack. The plug i have been building is a 6 inch danny plug and i modeled it after a beachmaster plug which was helpful for my first project to have a successful plug infront of me. I am currently just using latex paints and clear coat because i live in northeast and its too cold to paint outside and i dont want the fumes that come with oil paint and epoxy, that will be for the summer. I have learned a lot by making mistakes so if you think i can help ya with anything just ask. Good luck, have fun!
  9. watched the video and i think its a option to reproduce plugs - i like this kind of stuff i will have to set it up and give it a try - very cool thanks for sharing beachbob
  10. Wow thats crazy - nice job!!!
  11. Beach bob i love that you put both lathe's side by side! I use a harbor freight lathe and i like it especially if your on a budget like me. dont forget to use your 25% off coupon you'll knock of another 50 bucks.
  12. They look great and it sounds like you got the most important thing right - they swim the way you want! Nice job!
  13. Very nice stripercrazy!! I have some maple that im gonna turn into something - poppers might me it thanks
  14. Some jointed danny's that came off the lathe not too long ago
